Self-described Indie-lectro angst-pop Londoner Trouble Over Tokyo has almost passed from existence, so I’ll make a little fanfare about it. Last month, Toph Taylor, who basically IS Trouble Over Tokyo, announced he was going to end his project of the last seven years. I became aware of Toph when he toured with Bobby Long in the summer of 2010, opening with just his acoustic guitar and his soaring falsetto. (My video of Bobby’s first performance ever of ”She Wears Green” with Toph accompanying here: http://youtu.be/h4vKYOQv2fw) He’s been living and working in Vienna for years, finding an alternative reality in their indie music scene that he couldn’t find in his native London.
It’s unclear to me what Toph will be doing after the demise of ToT. He’s done some remixes of other artists, and with his meticulous self-producing skills I’m sure producing others is a distinct possibility. I can’t believe he will just disappear from the music scene entirely, and he promises he won’t.
Here’s a link to his Soundcloud where 9 out of his 10 tracks haven’t hit their download limit, so you should partake! http://soundcloud.com/troubleovertokyo/tracks
Here’s a remix he did of London ElectroPop artist Scarlet Soho’s “When The Lights Go Out” which became available for free download last week: ♫ Scarlet Soho – When The Lights Go Out (Tokyotron reMix By Trouble Over Tokyo)
His very last performance will be at the Poolbar Festival in Feldkirch, Austria on August 4, 2012. I wish you the best, Toph!
